introduction: development of brain edema following focal cerebral ischemia exacerbates primary ischemic injury. blood brain barrier (bbb) opening is an important part of edema named as vasogenic brain edema. in this study, quantitative alterations of bbb permeability is experimentally evaluated using transient focal cerebral ischemia in the rat. methods: two groups of male rats (ischemic and sh...

An immunofluorescent slide method incorporating 0.1% (wt/vol) Evans blue as a counterstain was developed and compared with a recently described tube method. Seventy-one urine specimens were tested concurrently by both methods. Results of the two methods agreed in 70 specimens and disagreed in only 1. We found the slide method to be less costly and time consuming than the tube method.

This method is based on the intravenous injection of Evans Blue in mice as the test animal model. Evans blue is a dye that binds albumin. Under physiologic conditions the endothelium is impermeable to albumin, so Evans blue bound albumin remains restricted within blood vessels. In pathologic conditions that promote increased vascular permeability endothelial cells partially lose their close con...

PURPOSE This study investigated whether a nonradioactive dye, Evans blue, can be adapted as a safe alternative to the isotope-dilution method for quantitating blood-retinal barrier breakdown. METHODS Blood-retinal barrier breakdown was induced in rats with vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) or through the induction of diabetes. After allowing Evans blue to circulate in the vasculature,...

Objective(s): Neuroprotection is created following the inhibition of angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1R). Therefore, the purpose of this research was examining AT1R blockage by candesartan in diffuse traumatic brain injury (TBI). Materials and Methods: Male rats were assigned into sham, TBI, vehicle, and candesartan groups. Candesartan (0.3 mg/kg) or vehicle was administered IP, 30 min post-T...

OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to correlate permeability parameters measured with dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) using a clinical 3-tesla scanner with extravasation of Evans blue in a rat model with transient cerebral ischemia. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sprague-Dawley rats (n = 13) with transient middle cerebral artery occlusion were imaged using a 3-tesla...

The binding of T-1824 (Evans blue) with plasma has been extensively studied in the past by Allen and Orahovats (1) by means of the cellophane sorption method. Although this approach yielded excellent results, a simpler and more direct method seemed desirable. The basis for this new method is furnished by the observation, made in 1939,’ that the free T-1824 gives rise to a distinct polarographic...
